OUR PLANET IS DYING!
And it’s time to be more aware!
The average American throws out 1.8 THOUSAND pounds of trash every year, making the United States the leading producer of municipal solid waste worldwide.
Out of the waste we produce overall as a country, nearly 65% is completely reusable, and only about a third of it actually gets recycled.
WE NEED TO DO BETTER!
Glass follows the same trend, with 11 MILLION TONS thrown away per year and, again, only a third of that being disposed of properly, leading to the global glass industry releasing over 90 MILLION TONS of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per year to produce more glass for us just to toss away!
Glass being thrown away inappropriately is just as dangerous as plastic! Stray animals are injured and even killed by coming into contact with or ingesting shards of glass that have been discarded on the ground or in dumpsters.
What I do!
What YOU can do!
Get creative! Find new ways to recycle and reuse your recyclable waste! Make vases out of soda bottles! Storage out of jam jars! Jewelry out of old clothes! Make it unique!
If you’re going to recycle your glass, wrap it in something that will prevent it from being sharp, like paper, bubble wrap, tape, loose fabrics, etc.
